Lasik Surgery Information

How Much Does Lasik Cost

The first thing that must be considered when you consider lasik laser eye surgery procedure is the price. It's hard to offer a fixed price because there are several factors that change the final amount from one case to another.

The first one is the geographical location. For example: a famous surgeon from Beverly Hills is considerably more expensive than another one from Pennsylvania.

Also, the treatment facility must be taken into account because a small private clinic won't charge the same price as a hospital or a specialized eye treatment center.

Another important factor is the reputation of the surgeon and of the center. It's obvious that a professional doctor will ask more money for the procedure than any his colleagues.

After considering all the above mentioned factors you'll probably want to know the average price for the lasik laser eye surgery. Well, the standard rate used globally is about $2000.

But to this amount, you should add money for local taxes, surgeon's reputation, geographical location and last but not least the doctor's royalty fee. Either way, you should know that for most surgeons the price is pretty much the same.

If you wonder about additional costs, you should know that your doctor must quote the total amount during your first eye-consult. In addition to all that you'll have to pay for the follow-up treatment and post-op medication if needed.

There are strong competition in the field of lasik eye surgery and that's why many surgeons offer some form of discounts in order to remain competitive. Usually they publish the coupons on the local newspaper or on the Internet but just to be sure, when you go see the doctor for the consult you might wanna ask him about any discounts offers.

For example there are a few surgeons that offer discounts to patients that pay cash for the procedure while others offer senior citizen discounts.

Also, if you're really looking to find a good bargain for your surgery and you don't mind going to other cities then you should start a research on the Internet.

As I said before the geographical location is very important and if you're lucky you can find an affordable treatment center perfect for your budget. This means that you'll get your surgery and you'll enjoy a very pleasant vacation in the same time.

Go to your doctor for a lasik consulatation. Different proceedures have different prices as do the surgeons depending on their education and experience. Also, if you wear contacts, they usually want you to wear glasses for several weeks before the surgery with no contact lens wear in order to properly reshape the cornea.

  7. QUESTION:
How much does Lasik/ Laser vision correction cost?
I recently won a raffle for a free laser surgery, they are sending me a certificate for 00. I'm pretty sure that it is going to cost more than that for both eyes. I know is is more expensive the worse your vision. I have -5.15 apx. in both eyes, no Astigmitism. Can anyone tell me how much it cost you? Please no, ''... I'd guess its about $xxx...'' and I'm not going to fly to India to have it done. Thanks in advance to all of you who help.
I know to research the place and check it out before I commit to anything. I've looked online for costs, but everything I find says I'd need a consultation. I have one scheduled with this place on July 12th, and I'd like to have an idea before going in. I just want a ball- park number from people who have had it done.

    • ANSWER:
My PRK custom wavefront cost me 00 after my vision discount. The other quotes I got in my area was 00 and 00. (and I totally hear ya on the India thing!!)

The standard LASIK ranged according to the technology used, but for the broad beam technology, the price was about 00, flying spot was 00 and the custom without any discounts was 00.

Actually, the expense isn't necessarily how bad your correction is...for my surgeon, he charges by the technology used...and it's a flat rate per technology. And for the other two surgeons I looked into they had flat rates as well, but didn't have the different technologies available.

Some health insurance companies also have some type of "rewards" system that might help with a discount if the surgeon you go to will accept it (some companies will have a contract with that surgeon...not that it will be covered and paid for...just you'll get a discount if you have a certain insurance).

I'd say that the 00 certificate is a great prize! judging on my research, the US average per eye was 00-2100...which with your prize, you'll have at LEAST 1/3 paid for. congrats!

  11. QUESTION:
How much does a Lasik procedure cost and is it right for me?
as a child I've always had poor vision. Not enough to require glasses all the time but i would need them to look at the chalkboard and to read. I'm 28 now and although my vision has not prevented me from doing anything I do, i still wonder how nice it would be to have perfect vision. How long does it last and how much does it cost? Thank you for your help

    • ANSWER:
I had to wear glasses in middle and high school to read the black board as well and to watch T.V. but otherwise my eyes weren't that bad either. But by my senior year they started getting worse and I got contact lenses and continued to wear them for years (through my twenties and most of my thirties) as my eyesight got worse and worse. I had to wear them or glasses all of the time or I could not see anything but a great big blur and I wondered like you are how it would be to have perfect vision. I wanted it forever but felt like I could not afford it and was scared of it too. Finally I went through with it last September and it is about the best thing I have ever done for myself. I only wish I had done it many years ago. It cost me approximately 00.00 which I financed for two years with no interest. I only have another year to pay on it. It is so worth it! After surgery, my eyes had/have to be checked by my regular eye physician at one day, one week, one month, three months, six months, and one year intervals. At one year my eyes should be stable and be at the prescription they will stay at without an adjustment. So far I have been to each appt. except the one year and am seeing/reading 20/20. I will see where they are next month. It is important to choose a very good doctor with great recommendations. Mine has performed many surgeries, was chosen by my eye doctor who I trust (he even sent his wife and daughter there), he is the official eye surgeon for two major sports teams in our state, etc. Also, he guarantees my eyes. That means that if I need an adjustment in the future to make my focus sharper if begins to slip back I will get that free of charge as long as I make each of those required appointments during the first year. As we age, we will have to end of wearing reading glasses unfortunately. There is nothing to be done about that. I suppose that our eyes can get bad again too as we get into really old age. You are so young and will not have to worry about that for a very long time. Perfect vision is fantastic! Better than I even imagined. Just be sure to check out everything especially your surgeon. Get a great one even if it costs you a bit more. Good Luck!

  12. QUESTION:
how much does lasik cost these days?

  13. QUESTION:
How much does Lasik eye surgery cost?
How much does it cost? Also are there different kinds and forms of this surgery?
    surgery for both eyes...

    • ANSWER:
That depends. For the best doctors with the latest technology it will cost you around ,000 for both eyes. If you want costum bladeless Lasik it might go as high as ,000 for both eyes.

It can also go as cheap as ,000 for both eyes. But these are your EYES and you only get one set. I say ,000 to ,000 for peace of mind is better than ,000 and a lifetime of eye problems.

It also depends on where you live. But expect to pay in the ,000 to ,000 range for a GOOD doctor.

There are about 3 or 4 different forms of Laser surgery. I'm not an expert but I believe its:

      Lasek
      Lasik
      Intra-Lase
      PRK

My dad used to call me "handicap" when I needed glasses at 10...

    Please help.

    • ANSWER:
      Hey Julie!

The cost of Lasik varies based on several factors such as the type of procedure, your doctor, etc. New technologies allowing for ultra-precise and personalized treatment—including Custom WaveFront technology, and All-Laser or IntraLase® LASIK, often increase the price. Your decision should incorporate financing options, the reputation of the LASIK practice, the LASIK technology used, and—perhaps most importantly—the surgeon’s skill and experience. Doing your research is critical when you are dealing with your vision and the long-term health of your eyes.

As far as side effects, I can appreciate and understand your concerns. Like any surgical procedure, possible side effects (while minimal) may vary depending on type of procedure, equipment used, and the amount of correction required. The most common side effects, such as surface irritation and dry eyes, typically resolve themselves in the days and weeks following the procedure.

As always, it is best that you visit your nearest LASIK center to speak with a doctor who can provide you with information specific to you and your eyes; everyone’s eyes are different. Also, you may find the LasikPlus Facebook page helpful in answering any further questions you may have by reading over the experiences of people who have had Lasik and even speaking with actual doctors. 21. QUESTION:

Can anyone give me an average figure?

    • ANSWER:
My nephew just had it done in Lansing, Michigan. It was 00. His mother said that it was cheaper here in Alaska (00). From the things I have heard, most seem to be between these two prices.

If you are serious, a lot of these eye places will let you pay it off monthly. They work with a credit card company and you fill out the application and just pay monthly.

Good luck. Everyone I have met who has had the surgery just loves it.

  22. QUESTION:
How much does lasik surgery cost if you don't have insurance? I live in the tri state area.?

    • ANSWER:
This varies a lot depending on the surgeon who does the procedure. I had LASIK done about 5 months ago and I got quotes that ranged from ,400 to ,700. I've heard others pay even more. All of my quotes were for Custom, which in my opinion is the way to go. You also have to find out exactly what's covered in their fee. Some offer different guarantees or warranties if your eyes change over time. Some include all of your drops and pre/post op care. In the end I spent ,700 on the procedure which included the lifetime warranty and post op drops. I'm an optician and the optometrist I work for did all of my pre and post op exams for free and the ophthalmologist threw in punctal plugs to help with dryness as a freebie just because. I also spent another or so on over the counter lubricating drops.

I did a lot of research about the procedure before I had it done and basically interviewed doctors until I found one I was happy with. He wasn't the cheapest but I felt so much more comfortable with him and his staff and he had a such great track record and reputation that it was an easy choice. My eyes were worse than 20/400 before the surgery but a week after I was 20/15.

    how much does Lasik cost?
How long is the recovery time?

    • ANSWER:
At the center I work for, LASIK costs between 0/eye to 00/eye depending on your prescription, which surgeon and the technology used. Fees range mainly due to the surgeon's experience, the more experienced the higher in cost.

Recovery time is about 1 day if even. After surgery it will be a bit blurry. After a nap (1-2 hours) most patients can see fine and it just gets better the next day. Usually you should have a check up 24-48 hours afterwards and they will be able to determine your vision then.

  27. QUESTION:
How much does Lasik cost? No vision insurance...?

    • ANSWER:
The cost for Lasik varies from around 9 an eye to over ,500 an eye. The lower end of the price range is usually for simpler surgeries of patients who do not have any or much astigmatism. However, it is a good idea not to let price be the deciding factor when choosing a doctor to perform your laser eye surgery. While it is still considered an elective surgery by most insurance plans, and therefore they will not cover it, most reputable vision centers have a variety of payment options to suit any budget.

I am going to Kerala in june. planning on getting lasik surgery done. Can someone tell me how much would it cost and good eye clenic/Hospital

    Thank You.

    • ANSWER:
The cost of LASIK eye surgery may or may not include any of the following:

      Royalties owed to laser manufacturers.
Purchase and maintenance of surgical and technical equipment.
Surgical gowns, gloves, masks, and other sterile and disposable materials.
Medications used before, during, and after surgery, including anesthesia, eye drops, and oral pain medications.
Rent for surgical and office facilities.
      Surgical and office staff salaries.
      Advertising fees.
Pre- and post-operative evaluations for up to one year after surgery.
      Post-surgical enhancement, if needed.
Since many of these LASIK eye surgery price quotes are variable according to office location, the technology employed, and other factors specific to each surgeon, it is important for prospective patients to fully research what they are paying for when they have LASIK laser eye surgery. Be sure to ask surgeons to clearly outline what is and what is not included in their prices for LASIK before agreeing to any payment plans or methods.

How much does Lasik surgery cost ?
Ive heard its expensive how much is it

    • ANSWER:
I couldn't have the Lasik surgery but I did have PRK, which is somewhat similar and from what the Dr told me, costs the same. Here in Louisiana it is 9 per eye. I had to pay 99 per eye since my vision was really horrible. For about a week or so after the surgery, I was so miserable that I wished I hadn't even done it. But, that went away and now I can see perfectly. I used to have 20/1250 vision with astigmatisms in both eyes. Now I am 20/20. Absolutely amazing.

I would completely not recommend it. Your vision is a precious commodity and the idea of trying to bargain with it is terrifying. Also, if you get bargain surgery in America, you have a much greater chance of taking legal action whereas if you got laser eye surgery in Thailand, even if you did stay around for the year of checkups that these things usually require, if things went wrong you'd essentially have no grounds (and likely language skills) to deal with any of the health or legal repercussions. Really, it's not worth it.

  38. QUESTION:
How much does LASIK eye surgery cost on average?
and to anyone who's actually had the surgery before, is it worth it?

    • ANSWER:
The optimal time to have LASIK eye surgery is in your 30s or early 40s. Having it done when you're very young is not always the greatest idea because your eyes can change later on. You should consult with a reputable eye surgeon. Someone who is more concerned about your welfare than making a fast buck.

Most of the bigger LASIK surgery practices do offer financing and this makes sense because you're going to use this over the rest of your life. I wouldn't go with the doctor that offers you the cheapest price. You only get one set of eyes.

  41. QUESTION:
how much does a lasik surgery in europe cost?
a friend of mine wants to make lasik surgery in ITALY? do u know how much, even approximately, will it cost her?

    • ANSWER:
Lasik eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and Lasik surgery in India by a company called Indian Health Guru Consultants. The Price for dental and Lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Indian Health Guru Consultants is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, Lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.
They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

  42. QUESTION:
How much does Lasik Eye Surgery cost?
What exactly is the range of prices I'm looking for?
We'll probably want to conduct the procedure in Austin, Dallas, or San Antonio, TX.

    Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
I had Lasik eye surgery done after wearing glasses for 16 years. It has been perfect for me. I have had no changes. Of course, as I age, I expect changes. I also co-manage refractive surgery and have seen hundreds of successful patients. It doesn't hurt, generally. There is a bit of pressure, but no real pain if you have LASIK. The PRK version (where no flap is cut) is a little more uncomfortable for the first few days following the procedure. I've seen several people who said they were in some pain, but healed just fine. I used to wear both glasses and contact lenses. I had LASIK done and it's the best decision I've ever made. I can see clearly, no squinting, no driving with glasses anymore. I can read road signs, see the individual leaves in the trees (they're not just a blurry mess anymore). It's also nice to be able to see what time it is when I wake up. The procedure is painless (although a bit uncomfortable) but takes less than 15 minutes. Highly recommended.

  47. QUESTION:
How much does lasik eye surgery cost in general? I want to get it for my dad.?

    • ANSWER:
LASIK eye surgery can be found inexpensively at around 0 per eye. The acutal cost may be more depending on prescription, corneal thickness and other risk factors that the ophthalmologist would determine at consult.

Now the second part about getting LASIK for your dad... please remember that LASIK is not like getting a puppy or a new car. It is a permanent procedure with typical surgical risks including loss of vision, decreased vision, blindness at the low end and halos and decreased vision at the higher end.

If your father is considering LASIK on his own then it might be a reasonable "gift" but if he's never considered it and you are offering it do remember that any negative as well as positive will be on your shoulders. Talk to your optometrist if you have further questions.

  48. QUESTION:
Approximately how much does Lasik surgery cost?

    • ANSWER:
The cost of LASIK depends on a variety of factors, including the quality of the surgeon, the amount of care provided, and the amount of followup allowed, as well as whether or not enhancements are included.
Some centers charge a la carte. So they charge a low price, but do not include Custom treatments, enhancements or long term followup. Some of these centers even performa a bait and switch - where the price is advertised as very low (perhaps 9 or so) but this price is only available to a select few patients (those with minimal prescriptions). The average patients typically pay 00 to 00 or more. They also typically charge extra for punctal plugs. And again when enhancements are needed - they often charge additional fees.
Other Centers charge 00 to 00 per eye - but provide more comprehensive services with longer followup periods and will typically include enhancements in the price of the surgery.

  50. QUESTION:
How much does it cost to get lasik surgery done in India?
I am going to Vadodara, Gujurat in january. planning on getting lasik surgery done. Can someone tell me how much would it cost.

    Thank You.

    • ANSWER:
The Cost of LASIK Surgery depends on the type of surgery you undergo. I had mine done with Dr. Rupal Shah at New Vision Laser Centers in Vadodara. Standard LASIK was around 20000/- for both eyes. But Optimized LASIK was costlier. I had Customized LASIK done for Rs.34000/- for two eyes But Dr. Shah also offers a blade free LASIK, with the femtosecond laser for something like 60000-70000 Rs.

I am really glad I got LASIK done. I love the freedom of not wearing glasses.
