Lasik Surgery Information

How Much Is Lasik

Both patients and doctors must consider many different factors before LASIK eye surgery. Pupil size is one of the basic variables that surgeons will look at when determining if someone is a candidate for laser eye surgery. The size of the patient's pupil can have a major impact on the outcome of the surgery, and some patients may even be excluded from the procedure due to pupil size. Before opting to undergo LASIK, all patients should analyze their pupil size, consider the possible outcomes and discuss their concerns with a qualified surgeon.

Pupil Size and LASIK Success

Why does the size of the pupils matter so much? Most experts agree that patients with smaller or larger than average pupils generally do not have as good of results as those with average sized pupils. Numerous studies have shown that individuals with large pupils have a greater risk of experiencing a negative post-surgery outcome. Some potential side effects include blurry vision, overcorrection, undercorrection and poor night vision.
Due to this, surgeons now carefully screen patients based on important factors such as pupil size. In many cases, people with large pupils are told that they are not good candidates for the LASIK procedure. Past lawsuits brought by patients who have experienced negative outcomes have led many surgeons to err on the side of caution. However, all patients need to act as their own advocate when considering cosmetic surgery. In order to avoid problems, potential patients need to ask their qualified surgeon about pupil size.

Solutions for People with Larger Pupils

While large pupils can increase the chance of complications, this does not necessarily mean that every patient with larger than average pupils is ineligible for LASIK. New technologies and developments are making it possible for people with small and large pupils to have successful laser eye surgery. New lasers now allow surgeons to treat a larger area of the cornea with greater precision. However, surgeons must always warn patients that potential side effects may still occur.

In some cases, alternatives to LASIK are the preferred choice for individuals with small or large pupils. Some possible solutions include implantable lenses, intraocular lenses and traditional contact lenses. Each of these options carries a unique set of benefits, risks and expenses, so it is essential that each patient consider his or her own needs and resources before making a decision. For some patients, opting for a non-surgical choice such as 30-day contact lenses is a good choice that eliminates much of the risk.

  1. QUESTION:

It is something I would love to have done, but I don't believe my current insurance covers it.

  2. QUESTION:
How much lasik (water pill) is too much. I'm now taking 160 mg per day with no results?

    • ANSWER:
I'm presuming, my friend, that you're referring to Lasix (furosemide), as Lasik is laser eye surgery.

It depends specifically on why Lasix has been prescribed as to what the maximum dosage should be. Only your doctor will be privy to this information.

I'm surprised that after taking such large doses your are getting no results. I'm even more surprised as to why your doctor hasn't tried an alternative diuretic.

Here in SC without insurance or a discount plan the cost is a little over 2,000.00 per eye, depending on how severe the vision.
If you do not have a vision insurance that covers it it could be worth investing in a discount plan at least until you have the surgery done :) If you would like info. on the plan that I use contact me.

  4. QUESTION:
How much does LASIK cost in Massachusetts?
My vision is the same in each eye (-4.75) I have been wearing contacts for 8 years, and they drive me crazy, but not as much as my glasses did. I am thinking about having LASIK done. Any opinions, experiences?

    • ANSWER:
Go to your doctor for a lasik consulatation. Different proceedures have different prices as do the surgeons depending on their education and experience. Your RX really does not have as much bearing as your corneal thickness and tear production as well as how old you are and how much your eyes have changed over the years. You need to call and ask.

  7. QUESTION:
How much does lasik eye surgery cost nowadays?
I've been wanting lasik eye surgery for a long while now coz I'm so sick of contacts and glasses. Is there monthly payments or payment in full? And will getting lasik get rid of astigmatism, or lazy eyes as well??

    • ANSWER:
Mine was about K per eye. But it depends on the method of surgery, the extensiveness of corrective work needed, and the doctor you use.
Most places have financing available. I think it can help astigmatism, but I don't know about lazy eye. Consultations are usually free of charge so be sure to visit a few doctors to find the one that's best for you.

These are your eyes, you don't want to bargain shop, and the price is worth it.

  8. QUESTION:
How much is Lasik eye surgery?
I'm 16 and have 20/50 vision and have glasses, but they are a nuisance on account in some situation they aren't completely available and I find them annoying and unattractive. I've tried contacts and they aren't for me so don't suggest that. I heard Lasik surgery is about 1000$ to do, but there is different kids of surgery or something and there is a chance that your eyes can become worse or something? Can someone please give me all the details and price of these surgeries?

    • ANSWER:
Where are you? I know someone who had it and now has better than 20/20. She is thrilled with it. It cost about 00. There are slightly cheaper places but where she went is the best. In Australia once you get to a certain level (I don't know whether 20/50 is bad enough) you do get some back from Medicare and your private insurance. The operation itself took only minutes. Measuring up beforehand took about an hour and she had to go back the day after the surgery and then again later a few weeks later. None of it caused her any problems. Unlike the previous respondent she did not have cataracts removed and does not need glasses for anything. She did lash out on some fashionable sunglasses though!

  9. QUESTION:
How much is lasik eye surgery?
My vision isnt too bad, I just cant see well far away. Can you give me an idea of how much it would be for both eyes?

    • ANSWER:
It varies greatly depending on the level of experience they have, where you live, etc. There are commercials here in san diego saying you can get it or 9 per eye, I had it done and will recommend it very much! I paid 00 for both my eyes, pretty expensive but I went to one of the best! I scrimped and saved because I didn't want just anyone messing with my eyes ya know!
I am VERY happy with my results, I went from being practically blind to 20/15 (better then perfect!)

So look into lasik surgeons/dr's in your area, and most of them will give you a free consultation. Where you will get your eyees checked to see if you would be a good candidate, and meet the dr. etc. If you don't get a good vibe from one, go to another!

  10. QUESTION:
How much does Lasik surgery cost? Is it worth it? What sides effects does it have?
I've been wearing glasses since forever. Recently I've been thinking about getting Lasik for my eyes. I'm a bit scared that it'll have all kinds of side effects. I'm 30 something. I'm mostly doing it for convenient. I'm just so sick of wearing glasses. Not only I can't see my "real" face, I just hate to depend my glasses so much. My dad used to call me "handicap" when I needed glasses at 10...

    Please help.

    • ANSWER:
      Hey Julie!

The cost of Lasik varies based on several factors such as the type of procedure, your doctor, etc. New technologies allowing for ultra-precise and personalized treatment—including Custom WaveFront technology, and All-Laser or IntraLase® LASIK, often increase the price. Your decision should incorporate financing options, the reputation of the LASIK practice, the LASIK technology used, and—perhaps most importantly—the surgeon’s skill and experience. Doing your research is critical when you are dealing with your vision and the long-term health of your eyes.

As far as side effects, I can appreciate and understand your concerns. Like any surgical procedure, possible side effects (while minimal) may vary depending on type of procedure, equipment used, and the amount of correction required. The most common side effects, such as surface irritation and dry eyes, typically resolve themselves in the days and weeks following the procedure.

As always, it is best that you visit your nearest LASIK center to speak with a doctor who can provide you with information specific to you and your eyes; everyone’s eyes are different. Also, you may find the LasikPlus Facebook page helpful in answering any further questions you may have by reading over the experiences of people who have had Lasik and even speaking with actual doctors. 15. QUESTION:
How much does LASIK eye surgery cost on average?
and to anyone who's actually had the surgery before, is it worth it?

    • ANSWER:
The optimal time to have LASIK eye surgery is in your 30s or early 40s. Having it done when you're very young is not always the greatest idea because your eyes can change later on. You should consult with a reputable eye surgeon. Someone who is more concerned about your welfare than making a fast buck.

Most of the bigger LASIK surgery practices do offer financing and this makes sense because you're going to use this over the rest of your life. I wouldn't go with the doctor that offers you the cheapest price. You only get one set of eyes.

  16. QUESTION:
how much does lasik eye surgery cost in MI?

    • ANSWER:

  17. QUESTION:
How much is Lasik Eye Surgery?
    How much is it?

Also how does the procedure work?

    • ANSWER:
Some national chains advertise as low at 9 an eye, but when you look at the financial reports of those same chains you will find that the averaged cost is about ,350 per eye. Lasik cost varies from about ,400 to ,900 per eye, depending on the surgeon and technology, according to David Harmon, president of the St. Louis research firm MarketScope.

      http://www.usaeyes.org/lasik/faq/lasik-cost.htm

I work for a nonprofit organization that certifies Lasik doctor patient outcomes. We don't provide Lasik, just Lasik information and certification.

What you will pay will depend greatly on your unique circumstances and which procedure is recommended. Conventional Lasik will likely be less expensive than wavefront-guided custom Lasik. All-Laser Lasik will likely be more expensive than traditional Lasik. Some clinics charge extra for "lifetime acuity" plans that provide additional surgery if required later.

Nobody wants to pay too much for anything, but you are talking about microsurgery on your eyes. If you can't afford the best available surgeon, then you may not want to have Lasik at all . You need to focus (pun intended) on the quality of the surgeon and keep price secondary.

Lasik works by reshaping the cornea - the clear front of the eye. The first step of Lasik is creating a thin flap of corneal tissue and moving that aside. Laser energy is applied to the exposed area, and then the flap is repositioned over the area that has been treated.

By applying the laser energy deeper in the center of the cornea instead of at the top (like PRK, LASEK, and Epi-Lasik), the wound response is different. The eye is somewhat fooled into not knowing it has had surgery. This is how Lasik can have very fast vision recovery and virtually no pain.

  18. QUESTION:
How much does LASIK surgery cost?
How much does LASIK surgery cost and what is the requirements?

    • ANSWER:
Normally about 00 per eye and you have to have a certain amount of thickness to your cornea. Just go see a Lasik doctor. They normally do a free consultation.

  19. QUESTION:
How much does lasik eye surgery cost?
I live in Central Florida. If you live in Orlando thats great. Tell me, But if you dont tell me anyway. How much did it cost you or how much was the price range.
    Thank you.

    • ANSWER:
From 0 to ,500 per eye. The cost will vary depending on multiple factors such as your prescription, if you have astigmatism, etc.

  20. QUESTION:
How much for lasik eye surgery, if you're legally blind?
I can see and drive, I just need contacts or glasses to do so. Has anyone who was legally blind ever had lasik? Did it work? How much did it cost? I live in Nevada. Does it hurt? I've heard that it doesn't, but does it? And lastly, does anyone know the odds or chances of this type of surgery to make me permenantly blind? Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
"Legally blind" means that the very best vision you have, WITH GLASSES, is 20/200. Therefore, if you can see to drive, it is very doubtful you are legally blind.

Most people who have a prescription of up to -6.00 or -7.00 can be treated with Lasik. If your prescription is stronger, you may or not be treatable.

Whether you are a candidate for Lasik depends on many factors including your pupil size, corneal thickness, and glasses prescription. Of course, people with underlying eye diseases, like cataract or keratoconus (or hundreds of others) are not good candidates for Lasik.

Most of the doctors who do Lasik will provide you with a free screening eye exam if you're interested, an that is the only way you can tell if you are a candidate.

As far as pain goes, it should be minimal or painless. The risk of serious complication is much less than 1%, but it is more than zero. For me personally, the risks are too high. That being said, most people who had Lasik are very happy they did.

  21. QUESTION:
How much would LASIK eye surgery cost for me?
I'm 15 and I currently wear Toric Contact lense, meaning I have an astigmatism. My contacts cost between 0 - 0 a year. Would it be best for me just to get LASIK?

Also I live in south Florida, any well know LASIK surgeons down here?

    • ANSWER:
Im not in the US, Im in the UK, but my Lasik cost me £4000 including the interest for finance. My prescription was quite high and I had an astigmatism too but it was well worth it. It's great to be free of glasses and contacts. Contact lenses are not worth it in the long term.

  22. QUESTION:
How much does Lasik/ Laser vision correction cost?
I recently won a raffle for a free laser surgery, they are sending me a certificate for 00. I'm pretty sure that it is going to cost more than that for both eyes. I know is is more expensive the worse your vision. I have -5.15 apx. in both eyes, no Astigmitism. Can anyone tell me how much it cost you? Please no, ''... I'd guess its about $xxx...'' and I'm not going to fly to India to have it done. Thanks in advance to all of you who help.
I know to research the place and check it out before I commit to anything. I've looked online for costs, but everything I find says I'd need a consultation. I have one scheduled with this place on July 12th, and I'd like to have an idea before going in. I just want a ball- park number from people who have had it done.

    • ANSWER:
My PRK custom wavefront cost me 00 after my vision discount. The other quotes I got in my area was 00 and 00. (and I totally hear ya on the India thing!!)

The standard LASIK ranged according to the technology used, but for the broad beam technology, the price was about 00, flying spot was 00 and the custom without any discounts was 00.

Actually, the expense isn't necessarily how bad your correction is...for my surgeon, he charges by the technology used...and it's a flat rate per technology. And for the other two surgeons I looked into they had flat rates as well, but didn't have the different technologies available.

Some health insurance companies also have some type of "rewards" system that might help with a discount if the surgeon you go to will accept it (some companies will have a contract with that surgeon...not that it will be covered and paid for...just you'll get a discount if you have a certain insurance).

I'd say that the 00 certificate is a great prize! judging on my research, the US average per eye was 00-2100...which with your prize, you'll have at LEAST 1/3 paid for. congrats!

  23. QUESTION:
How much is Lasik eye surgery in Jacksonville Florida, or Orlando, Florida, or Long Island NY?
I am in Daytona Beach. they want a little over 5 grand. I can get to Jacksonville or Orlando easy. I could also get to NY and stay with friends. 00 is moronic!!

    • ANSWER:
Hello, I am a representative from LasikPlus hoping to provide you an answer to your question.

The price of laser correction vision surgery varies significantly by provider, type of procedure to be performed, and equipment used. WebMD estimates that typical costs for LASIK are in the range of ,200-,250 per eye. While these one-time figures may seem high , it’s important to keep in mind that laser vision correction procedures are intended to achieve permanent vision correction. If you consider the cost of glasses or contact lenses over time, these numbers compare quite favorably.

LasikPlus has centers in both Jacksonville and Orlando, Florida. If you want to check out our doctors and locations page, http://tinyurl.com/FB-Doctors-Locations, you can see the exact locations and learn about the doctors. Your decision about where you will have your LASIK procedure is as important as your decision whether or not to have laser vision correction. Your surgeon should have extensive experience performing the procedure he or she is recommending for you, as well as an excellent track record of success.

While this is some of the general information I can provide on the topic, every person’s eyes are different. In order to learn more about laser eye surgery and have all of your questions answered, I would recommend coming in to the center most convenient for you to take advantage of a free consultation. This appointment will also help you determine which procedure, if any, would be right for you. Feel free to visit http://tinyurl.com/LasikPlus or call 1 (866) 953-0282. I hope this information was helpful, thank you for taking the time to research LASIK!

How much does Lasik Eye Surgery cost?
What exactly is the range of prices I'm looking for?
We'll probably want to conduct the procedure in Austin, Dallas, or San Antonio, TX.

    Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
I had Lasik eye surgery done after wearing glasses for 16 years. It has been perfect for me. I have had no changes. Of course, as I age, I expect changes. I also co-manage refractive surgery and have seen hundreds of successful patients. It doesn't hurt, generally. There is a bit of pressure, but no real pain if you have LASIK. The PRK version (where no flap is cut) is a little more uncomfortable for the first few days following the procedure. I've seen several people who said they were in some pain, but healed just fine. I used to wear both glasses and contact lenses. I had LASIK done and it's the best decision I've ever made. I can see clearly, no squinting, no driving with glasses anymore. I can read road signs, see the individual leaves in the trees (they're not just a blurry mess anymore). It's also nice to be able to see what time it is when I wake up. The procedure is painless (although a bit uncomfortable) but takes less than 15 minutes. Highly recommended.

How much does Lasik surgery cost ?
Ive heard its expensive how much is it

    • ANSWER:
I couldn't have the Lasik surgery but I did have PRK, which is somewhat similar and from what the Dr told me, costs the same. Here in Louisiana it is 9 per eye. I had to pay 99 per eye since my vision was really horrible. For about a week or so after the surgery, I was so miserable that I wished I hadn't even done it. But, that went away and now I can see perfectly. I used to have 20/1250 vision with astigmatisms in both eyes. Now I am 20/20. Absolutely amazing.

  43. QUESTION:
    What about lasik eye surgery?
I am of lower class. I work 40-60 hours a week. I have no health insurance because my job does not offer it. I have no current bills and was wondering how much lasik eye surgery costs and if their are any special programs out their for me. My glasses and contacts constantly affect my work and my hobbies, I can't drive without them, not to mention the money I spend on glasses and contacts is a pain. Has anyone tried the surgery? Did it work for you? Any and all information will be greatly appreciated! Please help me!!!!

    • ANSWER:
Disclaimer: I'm Canadian, so some of this may not apply:
      - LASIK and other refractive surgeries are mostly cosmetic in nature; even if you had insurance benefits, only the best plans pay more than a couple hundred bucks towards it.
      - Your dependence on glasses/contacts doesn't really factor into any financial programs anyways.
      - The surgery works, but isn't appropriate for everyone. All the surgical centres here provide free consultations, and they'll be able to give you much more information on your particular situation.
      - Some of the surgical centres (notably TLC) offer financing programs if you have good credit.
      - You'll probably be recommended to take a week off work if you do have the surgery, so make sure you budget for that as well.

  46. QUESTION:
How much will lasik surgery cost here in VA? im 28 and my vision is weak but I dont want glasses or contacts.

    • ANSWER:
Look into the Lasik Vision Institute. I had mine done at one of their centers in Florida. I disagree about looking for discounts. Lasik surgery has improved a lot in the last 10 years or so, and if you find an experienced doctor, then let their experience count. I had mine done for 9/eye about 1 1/2 years ago, and I still see them running that special pretty regularly. That's 8 total. What I didn't let them sell me on was all the 'upgrades,' which of course they will try to do when they get you in there for the exam. They could explain the upgrades no better than telling me that my vision could be 'crisper,' like hi-def TV, than the basic Lasik. Well, I don't have a hi-def Tv, and I don't really need hi-def eyeballs. I just wanted to see well, and asked if the basic Lasik would correct my vision as well as my glasses. They gave me an honest 'yes.' So after about 20 years or so of wearing glasses for a severe astigmatism, I now have perfect, 20-20 vision at the age of 38. As I said before, it cost me 8.
