Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Has anybody had the laser eye surgery done at LASIK Vision Institute in Rancho Cordova?
I went for a consultation a few weeks ago and the office seemed very clean and everyone was very nice and very thorough with the explanations and so i have an appt for Thursday and im very nervous, has anyone gone here before? i read somethings about scams and bad service but those were mostly in Florida and some other states but i couldn't find anyone who had it done i this specific location. or any info or experiences about this specific clinic? Please! i am scared now...

    • ANSWER:
If you are scared, cancel the appointment until you can get more information. Although the Rancho Cordova Lasik Vision Institute does have a website, I could find no independent patient reviews. This is both good and bad. People who have had unpleasant experiences or bad surgical outcomes are more likely to post complaints than those that don't, but not finding any reviews does concern me. If you know the name of your Lasik Surgeon, you can try googling "his/her name MD and Rancho Cordova" and see the individual surgeon has any patient reviews.

Were your eyes examined by your Lasik surgeon and were you assured you that you are a good candidate for this procedure?
Has the Institute discussed all the risks and side effects that could result from this procedure?
Has the procedure and post surgical care been fully explained to you?

If any of the above were not covered during your consultation, I would be leary of going through with the surgery.

You cannot have this surgery until your vision has stabilized and it is safest if has been stabilized for two years. Vision usually stabilizes in your early to mid twenties. Having the surgery before total vision stabilization will result in your having undergo the surgery again at a later time.

Most people having Lasik surgery have satisfactory to excellent results, but the less than 5% that don't can suffer irreversible vision problems including severe vision loss. I hope you have thoroughly researched the Vision Corrective Laser Procedure that the clinic will preform on your eyes and checked out the Lasik surgeon.

  2. QUESTION:
Any one had lasik done at Lasik Vision Institute in Dallas?
I am thinking of going to get the procedure done there, and I know I prob need PRK, just wanted to see other peoples feedback...

    • ANSWER:
I had it done 3 years ago and regret not doing more research on it. The people who were teaching me about it were dressed like doctors, but they were obviously paid to be sells people. Being nieve I took their word for it.

After the surgery I was having problems with dry eyes, eye pains, migraines, and strabismus. When I confronted them about it everything didn't add up so I started doing my own research online and talked to two local optomatrist.

What I found out is that Lasik surgery has only been arround for a few years and nobody knows what the long term affects are. Also no matter who does the surgery and what technology they use, you will always end up with scar tissue on the muscles arround the eye, which can cause problems. Also the fact they try to minimize so you don't think its a big deal is that every person is taking a risk of losing their eye sight and/or life.

Everybody there kept telling me that I was a perfect candidate for the surgery. Later I found out that your not a candidate if your younger than 25 because thats when your eye sight will have stabilized. I was 20 when they told me that I was the perfect candidate.

And take into consideration I paid over k to get it done at the most experienced lasiks surgeon in the world, with the latest technology. (Dr. Boothe in Dallas)

Bottom line is Your body is even more important than your car or your house. Get several unbiased opinions and do your homework. There are other options to improve your eye sight naturally and with less risk and WAY less money.

  3. QUESTION:
    Lasik Vision Institute Atlanta, GA?
Has anyone had laser vision correction surgery at the Lasik Vision Institute in Atlanta, GA?? I recently went for a free consultation and the staff was very knowledgeable the office had several people waiting. I also went to the Wooflson Institute last week and was not impressed by the staff or pricing. Any suggestions or past experiences would be great! Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
You'll want to ask the doctor (or their staff) how long the doctor has been in that line of work. More experience is a good thing when messing with the eyes. Discount places aren't always the best. I got mine at k and my friend got hers at .6k. She was blind for 2 days, and I woke up an hour after my procedure totally comfortable and with no issues with halo or anything.

A lot of doctors can also provide you with their patient satisfaction rating, so you'll want to ask for that. You'll know if they don't track it that they're bogus.

  4. QUESTION:
Has anybody had the laser eye surgery done at LASIK Vision Institute in Houston, TX?
If so, how was your experience.

I went to an appointment with them yesterday and they seemed to be great, but the thing that amused me was the price because it was so cheap. I know that the prices have dropped but I've been shopping around and they are between 00 and 00 for both eyes, and they only charged me ,700 with a lifetime insurance for BOTH eyes, which is GREAT and I'm really excited about it, but know I'm wondering if they are good enough. I have a friend who lives in Dallas and she had in done 2 months ago, she paid ,500. So, does anybody know if they are reliable and if LASIK Vision Institute is a safe place for that kind of surgery??

    • ANSWER:
I live in Alabama. I paid 00 for both eyes. It all really just depends on your eye sight before. If they are a trusted and very well known place, then have it done!! I dont regret it at all. Be aware though, your eyes will be extremely dry for a while.

  5. QUESTION:
Has anyone had LASIK at the Lasik Vision Institute?

    • ANSWER:

  6. QUESTION:
    LASIK Vision Institute (Ohio)?
I am going in for my second exam with LVI...I am apprehensive just because of the scary websites, etc talking about how LASIK is the worst thing ever...yet, I haven't met a person who didn't love their surgery...Has anyone had any experience with this company or around the Columbus OH area in general with LASIK?

    • ANSWER:
If the myopia is low to moderate (i.e. -7 D or less), then 96% patients achieve uncorrected visual acuities better than 20/40, however only 72% of patients achieve vision equal to or better than 20/20. As mentioned earlier, more people achieve 20/20 vision with wavefront-guided treatment. If the myopia is high (i.e. more than -7 D ), then 89% patients achieve uncorrected visual acuities better than 20/40, however only 48% of patients achieve vision equal to or better than 20/20. Note that the uncorrected vision results in high myopes is not as good as in low myopes (FDA data). LASIK and surface ablation have largely similar vision outcomes. Therefore, most - but not all - people will have 20/20 vision after LASIK without glasses. Some people will not be able to "get rid of glasses" to see 20/20. Taken together, this means that LASIK will almost certainly reduce your dependence on glasses and contact lenses, however, there is no certainty and there can be no guarantee that you will be able to achieve perfect vision without glasses. You have 90 to 95% chance of passing the vision test to get a drivers license without glasses (i.e 20/40 vision) and therefore 90 to 95% chance that you will be able to legally drive without glasses after LASIK. Our recommendation, however, is that you drive with the best vision that your eyes are capable of achieving.

Serious complications from refractive surgery are rare, as evidenced by the low rate of loss of best spectacle-corrected visual acuity. However, before undergoing any refractive procedure, you should carefully weigh the risks and benefits based on your own personal value system, and try to avoid being influenced by friends that have had the procedure or doctors encouraging you to do so. Remember that, even though rare, complications do occur.

Recovery time and vision result after Lasik

  11. QUESTION:
LASIK or PRK?? I'm not sure?
I'm considering refractive eye surgery. I have 2 options: PRK (preferred by the doctor) or LASIK (preferred by me, because it requires less recovery time).
I heard and read, and my doctor also told me, PRK does less structural damage to the eye, because the outer cornea (epithelea), regenerates itself. LASIK, on the other hand, requires a much deeper incision which never really heals. So, reading about that I would say PRK is preffered, also because I am now a -7 with astigmatism, and my cornea is a bit thin. On the other hand, with PRK the recovery time is much longer, because the outer cornea which is removed, needs to grow back, and this process might make your vision less than ideal during the first couple of months. I have read of people who absolutely would not recommend this procedure (PRK) because they got some serious complications afterwards: like blurry vision, halos, dry eyes, etc. which sometimes months after the surgery did not improve or improved very litte.
So, my actual question is: is every person really that different that for some the healing goes so smooth, while for others it takes months, and maybe even does not reach the expected results within a year? Or does it depend also on the way the surgery was done (read: the expertise of the doctor in this case, and the equipment being used), and how the patient takes care of him or herself after the surgery?
I'm really a little confused of what to do at this time. Although I'm with one of the best eye doctors in my area, and their institute has done numerous surgeries with great results.
Can anyone give an educated comment or advice?

    • ANSWER:
Well I am not sure about PRK but I had the Lasik done in march of this year and I love it. My eyes were a 7 also though only with a slight astigmatism that really didn't effect my contacts or anything. But with my eyes being that bad I immediately saw results as soon as the procedure was done before they made me keep my eyes closed. I was nervous about the procedure which I felt absolutely nothing and if you can keep really still it runs extremely smooth. I had mine done by clarkson eyecare and they were wonderful. My eyes are dry sometimes especially if i wake up in the middle of the night or when I first wake up in the morning and I do experience halos... starburst ex. during night driving but it is well worth it than putting up with the contact ordeal. As far as the cut never really healing... my eyes are completely healed though I didn't go with the razor cut everything was laser done on mine. But the dr said my eyes are completely healed which I do recommend doing the eye drops and all exactly the way they say to and for exactly how long they say. And definitely not rubbing them for the first 24-48 hours. So I hope this helped you in any sort of way... I highly recommend lasik... I wore glasses since 4th grade and contacts since I was in 7th grade and I am now 26... and I believe it to be a miracle that I don't have to wear either anymore. Good Luck.

  12. QUESTION:
    Eye surgery advice! Lasik?
I want to get an eye surgery done. My vision is not too bad but still i am wearing glasses and i am tired of it. What institute would you suggest? Any experiences good/bad? Anywhere Northern California. Thanks,

    • ANSWER:
I would not go for the surgery. I've had many people tell me that they did not see anywhere near as well as with the glasses or contacts after their surgery. Not only that, the surgery has only been around for about 30 years, so who knows how long the surgery lasts. Maybe people will start going blind from it after 40 years of having it. Breast implants have to be removed and replaced every 10-15 years or you can get all sorts of problems, so who knows if it's the same for this?
